Monday 26th October 2009
Self Defence talk – presented by PC Keith Brothwell & his team. At Brackenhurst College. 7:30 pm
The talk will be self defence for horse riders/owners/workers . It is aimed at providing people with some simple but effective techniques for defending themselves while out riding or working alone on a yard. Keith is a self defence trainer with many years experience and he gave his presentation at the BHS National Safety Conference last year.

Come along to chat about all things horsey; make new friends with similar interests, or just looking for others to hack out with, or share transport costs to competitions. A relaxed fun evening to discuss problems or share tips and advice. Wine, Canapés and Nibbles, included in the ticket price of £5.00

I do hope you enjoyed yourselves, it was fun to meet a cross section of horsey people from Notts.
Evening's Report:
It was a great night, 44 people came, (of which about 9 were BHS members, inc me, Val and Kay)
There was quite a cross section of horsey people, inc the charming 85 yr old who shall remain nameless, (who was blatantly speed dating) and who declared that his ambition in life, was to get to 90 years old, and then get shot by a jealous husband!
The Wall map, proved a great success, as people were given a label showing their name and interests to stick on, although by the end of the evening (after a couple of glasses of wine) it wasn't very accurate, as Bagthorpe had ended up very close to Newark!
Lots of people bought leaflets and information inc,
Gillian and Shirley Higgins brought a lap top and a display showing what "horses inside out" is all about, and also held a free raffle for a bottle of Blue Chip Joint RLF.

Beauvale Manor X/C and Livery yard, Moorgreen - Were well supported by owner Tracey Bettinson, and a large lively group of liveries and friends that kept the bar busy till quite late.
People travelled from as far as Newark, Mansfield and Bunny, and all agreed it was a great evening, and had met new people and friends.

Lots of subjects covered, plaiting/pulling (helpful hints for turnout), grooming, bandaging, mucking out, lunging (learn how to do it correctly) the list is endless...............!

Horses Inside Out - with therapist Gillian Higgins. Held at Vale View Equestrian Centre 7.00pm
Showing riders and trainers how they can improve performance and get more from their training by understanding how their horses work. The interactive demonstration, ‘Peak Performance’ will look at the influence of anatomy on flatwork and jumping. It sounds serious but Gillian is a passionate, enthusiastic and knowledgeable presenter who leaves audiences inspired and yearning to learn more. Horses Inside Out recently won a national award for the most innovative business and during 2008 gave lectures at the Holistic Horse Show, Your Horse Live and for the British Judges Convention at Hartpury College to name but a few.

Workshops
'Day Workshops' covering a variety of topics, ranging from;
1) Basic Stable management and Horse care - Aimed at people that are new to /considering horse ownership; to include Feeding, Grooming, Mucking out etc.
2) Intermediate Stable management and Horse care - Aimed at people that own their own horse and compete locally; to include showring turn out, pulling and plaiting, tack and bits, jump building and how to ride a course.
At the end of each day "Brightstar Certificates" will be awarded
Please contact me regarding which subjects you are unsure about and would like to cover, as these days can be tailored to your needs.
Running from 10am till 3pm
These days will cost £40 to inc light refreshments (please bring a packed lunch)
